4. Growing local business
Through these projects and technology transfer, Ji Duma
encourages local business creation and micro-entrepreneurship. A key element
is the feeling of pride and unity in villages that comes as a result of
these self-motivated efforts.
They are no longer forced to view themselves as powerless victims. Local
decision-making results in less dependency on the government and foreign
aid sources.
By constructing solar panels and water pumps, for example, which are more
affordable when produced locally, villagers have access to electricity
and potable water. Along with the skills to build, install, and maintain
this technology comes greater empowerment and, eventually, less need for
outside aid.
